When my client, Chloe, first came to me, she was exhausted. She was experiencing strange, heavy symptoms that she instinctively knew were tied to her hormones. Yet, like many women, her medical team dismissed her because her labs were perfectly “normal.” She felt completely disconnected from her changing body, but she knew she wasn’t crazy.
The Hidden Connection: The Gut Microbiome
Chloe’s story is incredibly common. When we started looking deeper, we discovered her estrogen levels were too high. This was partly driven by issues in her gut microbiome — specifically the estrobolome, a unique subset of gut bacteria responsible for metabolizing and clearing excess estrogen. The body is deeply interconnected. By focusing on fiber-rich, colorful plants to heal her gut, she began to clear that inflammatory estrogen and immediately felt a physical shift.
Supporting Adrenal Health in Perimenopause
Healing her gut was a breakthrough, but to help her fully transition through early perimenopause, a phase that can begin as early as a woman’s 30s and 40s, we had to address key components of her adrenal health.
- The Stress Response: When ovarian hormones drop erratically, the adrenal glands try to take over, but chronic stress forces them to prioritize the stress hormone cortisol over sex hormones.
- Restoring Balance: We implemented active nervous system regulation to lower her cortisol and stop her body from constantly fighting itself.
An Embodied Transformation
Through our work together, Chloe didn’t just manage her symptoms — she completely rebuilt her foundation.
- She improved her relationship with food, breaking free from restrictive crash diets that actually worsen anxiety and drive weight gain.
- She dramatically improved her sleep quality by understanding how to naturally regulate her circadian rhythm.
- She built unshakeable confidence in her body’s needs.
Chloe is still navigating perimenopause and will be for a few years, but she is finally grounded. She understands her body and can respond to its needs intuitively, without fear.
